Purcell Dido and Aeneas
Purcell’s exhilarating allegory on the seductive and corrosive charms of Catholicism and the celebration of the Protestant marriage of William and Mary, couched in the familiar Trojan story from Book IV of Virgil’s Aeneid, has enchanted and touched the hearts of generations of listeners as one of the most powerful and beloved of all English operas.
This concert performance is a co-production between the Vocal and Historical Performance departments, and is also being performed in Raynham Hall in Norfolk, a Jacobean mansion of historical relevance.
